Why Georgia Cannot Go Back to Barge
Barge promoted Social Emotional Learning (SEL) & CASEL in Georgia Schools
While Candidate Barge has called SEL as a backdoor to CRT, Superintendent Barge promoted the use of the national CASEL (SEL) standards and framework in afterschool programs across our state in an August 2014 communication to school districts:
From Common Core to CRT, Barge has shown time and time again that he’ll say one thing to get elected and do another once elected.

Coming into office, State School Superintendent denied a request for Georgia to receive a federal grant from CASEL. He has stood against the statewide adoption of SEL standards and has pushed back against adding more to teachers' plates -- fighting back against efforts to add SEL standards to distract from teachers' responsibility to teach our kids the academics. Schools aren't parents and Superintendent Woods has been a champion of the 'Parents' Bill of Rights' to protect the role of parents and ensure they are heard -- not silenced.
